Candlesticks
Candlesticks have been around for many centuries, and they still inspire new forms and ideas. A spark, a light, a flame, an explosion, they all intrigue me. Move your mouse over the small pictures and click to see a larger version. All sculptures and images are © Erwin Timmers.
As with most of my work, I have tried to depict industrial decay with these pieces. The gear teeth are obviously not fulfilling their intended function any more, but still look the part. Some of them do still spin or move. They are intended to slowly get covered in dripping candle wax, with the mechanical elements sticking out of the smooth wax.
The first 6 pieces above were featured at the Warehouse Theatre/Studio party in Washington D.C. on Dec. 18th, 1999. The lower 4 pieces were finished and photographed later.
