About ArtBasement

In 1991 I decided to completely change careers, and go to art school. I had always made my own lamps and furniture, and wanted to learn more. At the time a small experimental Bauhaus-style art school was starting up and taking portfolios for review. I entered, with about 400 others, and to my great joy, got accepted. Santa Monica College for Design Art and Architecture was a fabulous experience for me. All the teachers were respected artists themselves and there was a studio space for every student in an abandoned furniture factory/warehouse.

After finishing the course at SMCDAA, I moved to the San Francisco area, where my wife-to-be was finishing her education. We moved around a lot in that period, including spending 1½ year in Bologna, Italy. I didn't get a chance to set up much of a studio, but got a lot of inspiration. Now we've settled ArtBasement in the Washington D.C. area and plan to stay for a while. It helps not having to move all my 'pre-art' every time.

Some of the shows, that I've been in are listed below.
