I bought this '74 Spider in '95 as a replacement for my '72 Spider that I had wrecked. Originally, we were only going to use the front clip to repair the damage on the '72, but it turned out easier to restore this one, using the best parts from both.
I drove this car as my daily driver up until our move to Maryland. Here it is just not practical to drive it on a daily basis. It is too low to clear the many bumps and holes in the pavement. And I don't want to think about taking it out in snow and ice.
Whenever something broke, I tried to replace it with something better. I rebuilt the engine, fitted twin carburetors, lowered the suspension, added an anti-roll bar, found some nice wheels, redid the interior and fabricated a custom dash. I gave up trying to keep the car stock.
A great resource for information on keeping Fiats on the road is www.mirafiori.com.
